All email that is flagged as spam is stopped before it reaches you and if you're the paranoid type you can take a look through it to make sure nothing legitimate makes it into the bin. The guys at SpamTrap will tell you more but at a basic level their nifty bit of software can recognise virtually every form of spam and 'learns' what is junk and what isn't. There are other solutions to this growing problem but I find SpamTrap easy to use, no messing about and most important of all - it works!!. I went from receiving approximately 200 spam messages a day on one of my accounts to receiving maybe one or two - and that's on a bad day. But, from the hundreds of emails I checked (initially) the SpamTram robots hadn't made a single mistake.

That way if one of the addresses gets picked up by the spammers you can just drop and block that one address (and perhaps the list it was subscribed to) and continue in your low or no-SPAM world. Spam is a huge problem that's finally being taken seriously by Governmental bodies. ISPs all over the online world have vowed to stop spammers sending such vast amounts of email through their mail servers. The spammer agrees to pay the ISP to turn a blind eye to the junk email passing through their mail servers.
Out of self-defense, many ISP's turn to third party
services like SpamCop, SPEWS (Spam Prevention Early
Warning System), and SpamHaus to help them identify
sources of spam and block the messages before their email
systems get clogged. It's been estimated that between 30-60% of all email now
sent is Spam. But then let's say one of those people forgets they opted
in to the business's email list and reports an email
message as spam to one of the services I mentioned above. When the business finally discovers their status and
tries to contact SpamCop, SPEWS or SpamHaus, the real fun
begins. In the end, the current system only creates opportunity
for abuse that targets legitimate businesses while the
real spammers just merrily keep sending their flood of
email.

Its latest anti-spam software is available to both members and non-members. It seems like the volume of email spam has doubled in the last month. Earthlink is trying to address this problem by releasing new software.
