Blocking images will not only keep offensive content off your screen but will also help prevent more spam in the future. Remember, because sending email is so inexpensive, spamming can be profitable even if only a small percentage of people purchase what they're selling. Interacting with spam in any of these ways indicates to the spammer that not only is your address valid, it's also active. Even if you guard your email address religiously, you'll likely still receive spam. Do NOT open, respond to, or purchase from spam.
You will also find a number of articles on SPAM and how to prevent it. Identifying Spam as soon as it occurs is the first step to preventing it from happening again. If you are offered quick money or a chance to find your long lost high school classmate, you can probably guess that it is Spam. Spam is the worst form of junk mail and a typical reason why many people have to change their email addresses. An address from someone that you do not know through an account at hotmail, yahoo, or msn is probably Spam.
After listening to me complain about spam for months, my lead engineer burst into my office a few weeks ago and announced, I've solved our spam problem! I've installed a spam filter on our server that will prevent spam from getting through. They had effectively built an email brick wall that stopped the spam and everything else. Before investing in a commercial spam blocker you might also try adjusting the email filtering settings in your email software. I wondered what I would do with the extra two hours a day this wonderful spam filter would give me. While some spam comes as a result of online purchases (yes, there are companies that will sell your email address no matter what their privacy policy says), that's just one of the ways spammers get you in their sites.
We cannot allow this to continue, we need a war on SPAM, similar to the war on drugs. Attack the VR world by attacking those systems used by Spammers in the real world. By attacking these things early on, we send out a message to the Spammers that we mean business. A limited war on SPAM taken to those who wish to disrupt all we are and all we have built, we have come to far and sacrificed too much to allow a melt down of our society due to SPAM. Folks in my personal opinion, it is time for a literal war on SPAM.
