You would like to avoid using you primary email address, or the email address that you receive from your ISP for things like that. That makes it a bit more difficult for spammers to find your email address because they use special software that searches for the symbol, and not just the words. Spammers try to gather as many email addresses as they can. All you have proven is that you are indeed opening and reading emails. You would use this address when you register for newsletters, order products, enter contests, and register your new software.
Six Tips to Get Rid of Spam Email
Most business email will also contain a phone number. Spammers copy and paste web coding, making their email message appear to be official. The primary motivation behind these emails is identity theft. It seems like the volume of email spam has doubled in the last month. Given the large volume of unsolicited email that must be sorted through and deleted daily by businesses, do not rely on email as your primary vehicle of communication.
Email Spam and Phishing
Fed up with all the day to crap of junk mail I changed all the email addresses on my websites to forms. Her email tells you that she still loves you and she has sent you her personal photos just for your eyes only. The next half an hour is spent sifting through emails from important people wanting to show you how to make millions on the internet and others bombarding you with products and ezines about the latest online dating clubs. Just as your thoughts start to wander and you begin to imagine Lucy in her long fur coat and fish net stockings you have another email. Just what else could be in the remaining 120 emails you have to sift through.
Having a Bad e MALE Day? Email, Spam, Spam and More Spam
The FTC also says emails and web sites that claim to offer a national do not email list or registry could be part of a high-tech scam to trick consumers into disclosing their email address or other sensitive personal information. According to the FTC, these web sites and emails may be a way to collect valid email addresses to sell to email spammers. If you have already submitted your email address to a national do not email list or registry that promises to reduce the amount of spam you receive, you may be a victim of one the latest email scams on the Internet. You may have already received a do not spam list email, seen a web site or even heard a radio advertisement that promises to reduce spam email just by submitting your email address. So the FTC is advising consumers not to submit their email addresses to any organization that claims to be creating a do not spam list.
Is There A National Do Not Spam List?
Spammers use spider software to crawl the web and harvest email address, so if you have a personal or company website that has your email posted on it, sooner or later a spam spider is going to grab your address and add it to the mill. While some spam comes as a result of online purchases (yes, there are companies that will sell your email address no matter what their privacy policy says), that's just one of the ways spammers get you in their sites. I am so sick of all the spam that is sent to my business email address. I've been working on the Internet since 1995 and my email address has been publicly exposed for most of that time, so I am a spammer's delight. According to a recent study by eMarketer, the average Internet email user now receives 81 emails a day, and nearly one quarter of them are spam.
Beware Of Spam Withdrawals
It's taking up half of all email on the Earth, and it's costing businesses' billions in wasted time, as well as filling personal email accounts to the limit so important messages aren't received. They have multiple ways of finding out email addresses and then sending thousands upon thousands of unwanted messages to you and I. Supposedly most of the billions of junk emails originate from about 200 people who are intelligent enough to cover their tracks. It is estimated that around half of all email received on the Internet is this sneaky illegal attempt at selling fake consumer goods, pornography, and a whole plethora of 'helpful' services. So, show the criminals you're aware and not ignorant and take the first steps to bringing the Spam Empire down.
Spam: The Tasteless Internet Meat of Criminals
When the spam harvesting software goes through my site, it won't find a single working email address in my site proper, but it will stumble on a goldmine of addresses and load them into it's database. It will be stuffed full of email addresses, none of which work. If you are in a position to load your site with a few thousand dud email addresses, why not give it a go and Stuff the Spammers. I've collected thousands of email addresses that arrived in spam messages and ended up in my blacklist. I've dedicated quite a few pages on my site that have nothing but the email addresses from the blacklist.
Stuffing the Spammers!
Use your primary email address for business or personal use, and the other for making online purchases and for filling out web site registration information. Even filling out an online survey or registering your email address to become a member of a web site is subject to having your email address given away. Even being as careful as possible with my email address, I still used to receive more than 100 email messages a day, which is no exaggeration. In making online purchases, you should always realize that your email address could be given or sold, regardless of what the merchant's privacy policy may state. Some of these are legitimate links, while others are tools to indicate that your email address is valid.
Protecting Your Business From Spam
Another thing you can do is create two email addresses with one for personal messages and the other for public use, such as in newsgroups or chat rooms. Then they send millions of unwanted email messages to these email addresses with one click of a mouse. You should also create a unique email address because email spammers often use dictionary attacks to sort through possible name combinations at some Internet Service Providers. You can then have those emails forwarded to your permanent email address. Email spammers buy lists of email addresses from list brokers, who compile their lists by harvesting email addresses from the Internet.
How To Stop Unwanted Email Spam
A recent survey revealed that 86 per cent of workers used their company email to send and receive personal emails. Personal emails cause network congestion since they are not only unnecessary, but tend to be mailed to a large list of recipients and often include large attachments such as mp3, executable or video files that users do not zip. For years, companies have addressed their email security needs through a mixture of third party software solutions designed to address specific areas of vulnerability. In addition to personal emails, unwanted spam messages are a significant time waster. Spam and personal abuse of email can also cause a corporation's email system to waste valuable bandwidth resources.
Corporate Email Policies Lower Unnecessary Legal and Security Risks
CD's full of 1000's of names are not a good buy to market to, they will have been sold and sold again, and the people whose email addresses are on them will have been sent too many offers already. You try to send a more targeted mailing, but due to the spammers all email is being vetted more carefully, and spam is hurting all of our businesses, even responsible marketers like you who wouldn't even think about using it. Even with all these spam related problems, email remains a viable and usable option for Online marketin. Consider putting your newsletters online and sending a short email with the link to the latest issue in it. Always email responsibly, and ensure you give people a plain privacy link, and an even more plain unsubscrib.
Is Spam Affecting Your Business Email?
Now - don't feel I am supporting spam but for goodness sake, I don't want someone else monitoring my email and determining what I should read or not. They have installed content filters that dump any email that happens to match the keywords they have installed. How many legitimate emails do we have to not get because others are making that decision for us. Will there be words in that column that match the filters these self appointed guardians of email have installed - Sure. The problem is that there is no personal judgment at the level of the ISP to determine if a note is spam or not.
Internet Tip of the Week: Cease and Desist
Integrated spam filters are most popular amongst people who want a one click solution to collecting their personal email and filtering junk email at the same time. Using a standalone spam filter is a little more work simply because it's a separate piece of software that you have to run before you open up your email software. Most standalone filters do allow you to configure them so that your standard email application is opened once you've chosen what spam to filter. This one single feature has the huge benefit of allowing you to just download the email that you want as opposed to downloading all of your email, including the spam, and then sorting through it. Doesn't rely on specific email applications to work properly.
Which Spam Filter Is Best For You?
The best way to filter spam, is not to filter on the senders email address. Some people go so far as to set up a separate email account just for their personal use, and another for their ezines, which is not a bad idea. To compound matters, they forgot they are doing this, and get aggravated when they can't unsubscribe under their main email address. While most publishers don't want people on their list who don't wish to receive it, they have no idea what email address you used when subscribing. Filter out those emails that match your key words.
Internet Tip of the Week: Information Overload
I received an email some days later from a sales rep that had in the subject line just this one word. Help yourself and your readers by being very descriptive in your email subject lines. Nor do we want to run the risk of opening an email that will infect our computers. When the writer of the email or document fails to anticipate our question and postpones the answer, most of us become impatient. All readers, you and me included, approach each email we read with the same question in mind.
